How does Zithromax work?
Zithromax comes in the for of capsules and suspension, which both contain the active element azithromycin. Azithromycin makes part of a drug class called macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin is used for treating bacteria-caused infections. Azithromycin acts by restricting bacteria from producing proteins that are crucial for their existence. Without them the bacteria aren't able to grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Azithromycin help prevent the spread of infection, while the remaining bacteria are destroyed by the body's own immune system.
Azithromycin is an antibiotic that is effective against a vast array of bacteria that cause numerous infections. Azithromycin is often prescribed for treating the upper or lower airways infections, skin or soft tissue infections, or ear infections, sexually transmitted diseases. It is also used to treat certain types of infections in children.
But before you take Zithromax for treating a disease, you have to make sure that the bacteria, which caused the infection, is susceptible to azithromycin. To do that, you have to visit your doctor, so that he could take a sample of your tissue (for example, a swab from the skin) and make an analysis. If the bacteria is affected by azithromycin than you can take Zithromax as a treatment.
When taking Zithromax you should follow certain guidelines so that the medicine remains as effective as it has to be. First, make sure to not take Zithromax capsules in less than one hour before or two hours after a meal (Zithromax suspension isn't affected by food). Second, you should finish the prescribed course of Zithromax even if you feel much better and don't experience any symptoms. This reduces the possibility of a reclusion. Third, Zithromax, like any other broad-spectrum antibiotic, can cause inflammation of the bowel, which leads to diarrhoea. Fourth, like most wide-spectrum antibiotics, Zithromax can stimulate the growth of certain organisms in the body, such as fungi. In the last to cases you should consult with your doctor as soon as you experience any similar symptoms.
